Rickie Fowler has had somewhat of a resurgence in recent weeks.

After he failed to qualify for The Masters, Fowler has bounced back emphatically with two top 10 finishes in his last two events. The American finished T8 at the RBC Heritage and T9 at the Cadillac Championship, bagging a heap of FedEx Cup points at these Signature Events.

That has moved Fowler up to 53rd in the Official World Golf Rankings, up from 86th where he ended the 2025 season. All that’s left is for the six-time PGA Tour winner to challenge for victories once again.

But can he? Or has that time passed for Fowler? He said after his second round of the Truist, where a second round of 63 put him in the top 10 once again, how close he is to playing his best golf.

Rickie Fowler says how close he is to playing his best golf

A difficult 2025, with only two top 10s, saw Fowler tumble down the world rankings. He’s been uncompetitive on the big stage for a number of years, with his last win coming in 2023.

But after a good run of form of late, he’s beginning to build some confidence once again. Speaking after his second round at the Truist, he said, “Yeah, there’s been a lot of good stuff. Obviously, going back looking at last year and last summer and kind of building off of that, to be in a spot where the body feels better than it did last year.

“And also knowing that, yeah, in a good spot with the game, body’s in a better spot than it was last year, and just kind of continuing to build off of that. Seeing plenty of good things and finally starting to build more momentum and more confidence.”

He was asked what he did well during his second round at Quail Hollow, and Fowler said it was all mental: “I think, I mean, patient. Kind of stayed out of my own way. Didn’t try to really do anything too special, as far as like trying to hit the perfect shot or anything like that. Just, hey, keep it simple.

“Obviously it sounds a lot easier than it is. But there’s plenty of times where you sometimes, you know, try and do a little too much with certain shots or with a tee ball, versus just step up and hit it as if you were sitting on the driving range. Which is, like I said, a lot easier said than done.”

Rickie Fowler provides health update after injury-plagued 2025

A large part of Fowler’s struggles last season were injury-related. He struggled with his shoulder throughout 2025, and he explained how it affected him.

Fowler said, “Left shoulder. Stuff I had dealt with since basically high school and college. But it flared up early in the year. Sometimes I would have something, it would flare up for a little bit, maybe a week, go away. It just never went away and kept getting worse.

“So I tried to manage it the best I could through the year. Then once I got time off I was able to do some ACP injections, which are a type of PRP, just to help get it to chill out and calm down. So I’ve been in a lot better spot after that. Which, did that I guess September, and was able to get some work in later in the fall.”

It sounds like he’s beyond this now, thankfully, and able to find some form in the middle of major season.
