Rickie Fowler looks like he won’t be defending his Rocket Mortgage Classic title successfully but that doesn’t mean he’s not made his mark this year.
Fowler is the defending champion in Detroit but looks to be falling short this year.
The American has played well enough but is down in 19th place on 11-under par, some six shots off the leaders Aaron Rai and Akshay Bhatia.
However, given Fowler has had a miserable 2024 in the main on the PGA Tour, a return to form will feel good.
As will the support he’s been getting on the course as well.
The fans at the Rocket Mortgage turned the event into ‘Orange Hat Day’ yesterday in homage to Fowler.
And the 35-year-old admitted that the nod from the crowd didn’t go unnoticed.

Speaking in his flash interview after his third round yesterday, Fowler spoke about the support he’d had from the crowd in Detroit.
And as ever, Fowler was graceful with his words.
“It was cool. I kind of picked up on it quickly once I saw a bunch of people in orange Puma hats, especially being early,” Fowler said.
“There were quite a few people there with orange hats. I wasn’t told about it, or at least I don’t remember being told about it. But it was great. We’ve had a lot of support here over the years, especially last year and now being the defending champion going forward,” Fowler said.
Fowler remains one of the most popular players out on the PGA Tour when it comes to the fans and followings.
With big names missing this week, Fowler has been one of the star attractions and who knows, if he can make a few early birdies and get going, then he might put some pressure on the likes of Rai and Bhatia.
If he does, then you can bet your bottom dollar this crowd will be right behind him on Sunday.
