The start of the Ryder Cup is now just days away and it is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested match-ups in recent history.

YouTube content creator Rick Shiels has been talking about the Ryder Cup on his podcast and the Englishman made an extremely bold prediction about the outcome of the contest between the United States and Team Europe at Bethpage Black.

The online content creation sensation has been very outspoken about the Ryder Cup over the past year.

In fact, Shiels was highly critical of the Ryder Cup ticket pricing structure earlier on this year.

Prices have sky-rocketed due to the increased interest in the competition and the resulting astronomical demand for tickets.

There is definitely more fan interest surrounding this edition of the competition than there has been in the past.

US captain Keegan Bradley has a very strong group of players at his disposal. There was a time when Bradley looked certain to play on the US Ryder Cup team, but he opted against picking himself in the end.

On the other side of the divide, Luke Donald has 12 fantastic players under his wing as well.

As a result, the 2025 Ryder Cup could be one of the most closely contested clashes in the history of the competition.

Rick Shiels predicts which team will win the Ryder Cup and who’ll hole the winning putt

When he’s not creating content for his YouTube channel, Shiels produces regular podcasts.

Unsurprisingly, this week’s edition was centred around the Ryder Cup.

And Shiels put his neck on the line by making a bold prediction regarding the outcome of the clash between the United States and Europe.

When speaking on his podcast, Shiels made his prediction about which team will win the Ryder Cup, and suggested which player will take all the glory.

He said: I think we are going to be down after the first day. Down after the second day and have a late Medinah-esque finals singles day. And I think the hero will be Tommy Fleetwood again. I think he will hole the winning putt.

Tommy Fleetwood has been one of the best players on the PGA Tour in 2025.

He finally broke his duck by winning a PGA Tour event at the Tour Championship last month and he has proven that he knows how to perform under pressure at the Ryder Cup in the past.

If Fleetwood does have a putt to win the Ryder Cup, he will surely relish the opportunity.

It will be an unusual position for him at Bethpage this week, with the American fans rooting against Fleetwood for a change, and it will be interesting to see how he handles that.

Ryder Cup away wins since 1979

Europe have only won the Ryder Cup four times away from home in their history, and that in itself proves just how difficult it will be for Donald’s men to leave Bethpage victorious.

In fact, since Great Britain and Ireland became Team Europe in 1979, there have only been six total away victories at the Ryder Cup, with just one coming since 2006.

1993The Belfry, EnglandUSA

2004Oakland Hills, USAEurope

Donald and his players will obviously be keen to make it five away wins since 1979 for the European Ryder Cup team.

However, that will be easier said than done, with the vociferous Bethpage Black crowds cheering on the home team throughout the week.

Rick Shiels firmly believes that 2025 will be Europe’s year though, and if Donald does manage to guide his team to Ryder Cup success in New York, he might just go down as the best captain of all time.
