Rex Hoggard tells the PGA Tour the player they miss the most out of Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka

While LIV Golf has probably not been able to make the dent in the PGA Tour’s popularity that they would have hoped to make, there is little question that the breakaway league has struck a blow with the superstars they have managed to sign over the last three years.

Of course, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka made the move early on as LIV Golf was sending shockwaves through the game of golf. Meanwhile, it really did appear that their signing of Jon Rahm had the potential to change the landscape entirely.

Koepka became the first player to win a major after moving to LIV, while DeChambeau obviously followed him by winning the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst. Rahm was the defending Masters champion when he decided to jump ship towards the end of 2023.

And the Spaniard has vindicated LIV’s decision to get him, with Rahm winning the individual title during his first year in the league. He won twice throughout the season to beat Joaquin Niemann to the trophy for the year.

Nevertheless, speaking on Golf Channel, Rex Hoggard suggested that Rahm is not the player of the trio that the PGA Tour misses the most.

“Bryson, hands down. When you look at what he did at Pinehurst, took a literal victory lap around the property with the trophy in his hands, you look at what he’s doing on social media, I’m still waiting to see when he makes that hole in one. I’m on number four, don’t spoiler alert it for me right now, I don’t want to hear it,” he said.

“I think that’s the kind of personality that the tour misses, of all of the players that LIV Golf paid to come over, he’s the one that’s making the most impact.”

It is perhaps surprising that Rahm’s move has not had a greater impact. Admittedly, Europe look set to include LIV players in their Ryder Cup team for the first time at Bethpage, with Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Sergio Garcia all available to Luke Donald.

But the PGA Tour has found a way to continue without Rahm this year. Scottie Scheffler has obviously been, by far, the best player in the world, while Xander Schauffele had a breakout season with his two major titles.

As Hoggard suggests, if there was one performance which proved why the game needs to come back together, it was surely DeChambeau’s showing at the US Open – followed closely by his display at the PGA Championship one month earlier.
