Scottie Scheffler took just two shots on Sunday to confirm to everyone that he was highly unlikely to throw away his four shot lead during the final round of The Open Championship.
It was always difficult to see anyone other than Scottie Scheffler winning The Open Championship on Sunday at Royal Portrush. Scheffler had seemingly not got out of third gear for much of the week, and yet, he boasted a commanding lead with 18 holes to play.
A sumptuous approach and a birdie on the first hole probably took the wind out of the sails of every other player on the golf course.
And while Scheffler did make a double bogey on the eighth, there never appeared to be any doubt that the world number one would be the man lifting the Claret Jug in Northern Ireland.
Phil Mickelson reacts to Scottie Scheffler winning The Open Championship
Ultimately, Scheffler ended up winning by four shots from Harris English. It is his second major victory of the year, and the fourth of his career.

It also leaves him a US Open victory away from completing the Career Grand Slam – something Phil Mickelson knows all about.
Mickelson attracted some attention for questioning whether Scheffler would win before the Ryder Cup earlier this year. But he has posted a classy message on social media following his victory at the final major of the year.
Byeong Hun An kept the receipts after his claim about Scottie Scheffler in 2024
Byeong Hun An was another player who got some criticism for a take he made concerning Scheffler late on in 2024. An compared Scheffler’s season with one of Tiger Woods’ better years.
Obviously, it is a huge call to mention anyone in the same bracket as the 15-time major champion. But An made sure to highlight his comment on Sunday.
Scheffler is well on his way to becoming an all-time great. And he has sent out yet another statement to all of his rivals as the 2025 major championship season comes to a triumphant conclusion.
