Phil Mickelson says how he really feels about having to play against Jon Rahm at LIV Golf Michigan

Phil Mickelson will go head-to-head with Jon Rahm at LIV Golf Michigan on Saturday as the HyFlyers take on Legion XIII in the semi-finals of the Team Championship at The Cardinal at Saint John’s.

Six-time major champion Mickelson and the enigmatic Rahm are very good friends away from the golf course, but they will be the fiercest of enemies at LIV Michigan this weekend.

Mickelson recently raved about his fellow LIV golfer Rahm, highlighting how his passion on the course is a sign of how much he cares about playing well.

And the Spaniard spoke very highly about the American a few months back as well.

Rahm suggested that Mickelson’s driving is still ‘incredible’, despite the fact that he is now in his mid-50s.

The duo often play practice rounds alongside one another.

Rahm attended Arizona State University, and was coached by Mickelson’s brother, Tim, during his time there.

Now, they will go head to head in Michigan, with both teams looking to progress through to the Team Championship final on Sunday.

With Legion XIII being the number one seed, Rahm got to select which team he wanted to face, and he selected the HyFlyers.

Mickelson then got to name his side’s playing order before Rahm, and selected himself to go out first.

The Spaniard then named himself as Legion XIII’s first man out.

And Mickelson responded when asked about the prospect of facing his old friend Rahm in Michigan on Saturday.

He said: “No, it was expected, and it’s a great opportunity for us. We had a really good day today. It’s probably more important for our team than some of the others, but it’s a very meaningful day for us. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to take on the No. 1 team.

“We’ll keep the same lineup. So I’ll play singles first. Cameron Tringale will play in the second singles slot, and we’ll have Brendan Steele and Andy Ogletree play alternate shot.“

Rahm won the Individual Championship on LIV this season, so it’s no surprise that he has recorded superior results to Mickelson this season.

On his day, Mickelson can compete with anyone, but Rahm will represent a seriously difficult test for him on Saturday at the LIV Team Championship semi-finals in Michigan.

And most people expect Legion XIII to progress through to the LIV Team Championship final on Sunday.
