LIV Golf star Phil Mickelson has revealed he’s looking to add a new shot to his armoury after watching Bryson DeChambeau when he was an amateur.

It’s been a challenging year for Mickelson after he finished 46th in the LIV standings, just three spots above the drop zone. Before the LIV Individual Championship, Mickelson was at risk of losing his spot in the breakaway league.

Mickelson is eager to continue playing for the HiFlyers as long as he can compete at the required level, and the six-time major winner has revealed he’s looking to add a new shot to his arsenal.

Mickelson teamed up with DeChambeau for the US Open champion’s latest attempt to break 50 on his YouTube channel.

Speaking on the second tee box, Mickelson claimed he’s looking to emulate DeChambeau’s ‘fairway finder’ which the big-hitting American used during the early part of his career.

“When we first played, Bryson, you were an amateur; we played Plantation and Palm Springs.,” Mickelson said.

“You had a fairway finder and a normal swing. You were obviously at different speeds or whatever. I am trying to do something like that where I have a swing which feels shorter and a little slower, but I hit it in play, but then I can still step it up.”

Big 2025 LIV Golf season ahead of Phil Mickelson

Mickelson secured his LIV Golf future after finishing T28 at the Individual Championship in Chicago. Still, the six-time major winner will be aware that improvement is required when the 2025 season rolls around.

With new signings on the horizon and several big names out of contract, those who fail to impress in the new year will be at risk of losing their spot on the breakaway venture.

For Mickelson, his best years are almost certainly behind him, but that doesn’t mean he can’t compete on LIV.

It’s clear the lefty is still trying to improve his game and ensure he can compete at the highest level. And if the latest video with DeChambeau is anything to go by, Mickelson still has plenty to offer.
