The Californian really is a huge star wherever he plays on the planet.

Mickelson’s highlight on day one of The Open was an incredible hole out from the bunker on the third hole.

His round had fewer highlights on day two but when he finished up on the 18th hole, he achieved something truly remarkable.

Mickelson has thrilled galleries all over the world for more than three decades now.

And he has done the same at Royal Portrush so far this week.

The 45-time PGA Tour winner was in fine form during the first two days of The Open, and by making the cut, he jumped up one position on one of the most elite lists in the game.

Mickelson has now made 103 cuts in major championships.

He leap-frogged Player into second place on the all-time list, and is now behind only Nicklaus who is on 131.

However, in order to equal the Golden Bear’s record, Mickelson would have to make the cut in every single major championship for the next seven years, assuming that he plays in all of them.

Still, what an incredible achievement from the 55-year-old, and a shining example of his outstanding longevity at the very highest level of the game.

Mickelson has exemptions to play The Masters and The PGA Championship for life, and is exempt to enter The Open until he’s 60.

He definitely has the ability to rack up a few more made cuts at the majors before he’s done and who knows, perhaps he could still contend to win one as well.
