Jackson Koivun appears to be the new kid on the block in the world of golf and six-time major winner Phil Mickelson has already been put on notice it seems.
Koivun once again produced the goods in a PGA Tour event by finishing in a tie for fourth at the Procore Championship.
In doing so, it means Koivun has become the first amateur since 1956 to make three consecutive top tens on the TOUR without actually being a pro just yet.
Koivun, of course, has now earned his PGA Tour card via the modern accelerator programme and we could well end up seeing a lot more of him in 2026.
Now, though, LIV Golf’s Phil Mickelson has jumped on the bandwagon and cheekily hinted that Koivun is a player he’d love at LIV.

Phil Mickelson wants Jackson Koivun on LIV Golf
Mickelson has become well known for dipping his toe into social media and causing a storm with comments.
Who can forget how Mickelson suggested Scottie Scheffler wouldn’t win before the Ryder Cup, while he’s also not afraid of having a go back if called out.
Now, though, Mickelson has used his platform for good as he replied to a PGA Tour post on Koivun suggesting he’d look good in a High-Flyers uniform.
Quite whether LIV is something Koivun would even consider, only he knows.
But despite this being a bit tongue-in-cheek from Mickelson, you’d imagine the powers that be at the PGA Tour won’t be too thrilled.
Koivun to LIV Golf would be so disappointing
Any golfer in the professional game has the right to make their own choices and ultimately, live how they see fit.
However, with Mickelson effectively inviting Koivun here, it does seem a bit anti-climactic if he’s decided he’s joining LIV all of a sudden.
| Player | Position |
| Tom McKibbin | 20 |
| Josele Ballester | 35 |
| Ben Campbell | 36 |
| Luis Masaveu* | 52 |
| Yubin Jang | 53 |
| Frederik Kjettrup | 57 |
The PGA Tour needs to keep its best young stars and while money is big over on LIV, if they do well on the PGA Tour they aren’t exactly scrimping.
To see a player like Jackson Koivun make the move to LIV before he’s even proved himself and won on the PGA Tour would feel a bit of a slap in the face.
Hopefully, this is the sort of talk Koivun will want to avoid and ultimately, just keep playing good golf.
