Xander Schauffele is The Open champion and Phil Mickelson has been one of the first to react to the big win from his fellow American.

Schauffele produced an absolute masterclass on Sunday to shoot a brilliant six under par and cement his win ahead of Justin Rose.

For Schauffele, the win represents his second major win of 2024 and his second overall after going years of coming close.

It means that Americans have won the four majors for the first time since 1982 as well, as the best of both LIV an PGA Tours show their teeth.

Of course, one man who knows a thing or two about winning a major is Phil Mickelson.

Mickelson has won The Open himself back in 2013 and has another five major wins to his name as well.

And with some kind words towards Schauffele, Mickelson has provided his instant reaction to the goings on at Royal Troon today.

Phil Mickelson praises Xander Schauffele after his win at The Open

Taking to social media platform X to provide his thoughts, Mickelson had some words of class towards Schauffele and lauded the American for what he called an ‘incredible’ performance.

The question for fans now will be ‘can Xander Schauffele go on to win even more majors?’.

On current form, that answer is a resounding yes.

Like so many top players from America, he seems to be in a place with his game that, at times, makes him look almost unstoppable.

After being tipped by both Rich Beem and Wayne Riley to win after round three, Schauffele certainly delivered on that prediction.

Schauffle is still only 30 as well, meaning time is on his side to go on and win even more.

Jordan Spieth is the current active American golfer who is next on the list with three major wins and if Schauffele can take this sort of form into 2025, then he’ll soon surpass him.
