Vijay Singh is certainly proving a point to all of those who criticised his decision to take a PGA Tour card for the 2026 season.

Heading into the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, Vijay Singh is tied for 32nd at Waialae. The three-time major champion has posted two rounds of 68 either side of a 70 on Friday to put himself on four under par.

How will Brooks Koepka perform during the 2026 PGA Tour season?

Could he really win this year?

Singh came in for criticism ahead of the 2026 PGA Tour season after utilising a career money exemption that allows him to tee it up in most full-field events this year.

But the 62-year-old is already proving that he is far from being out of his depth.

Phil Mickelson issues his verdict on Vijay Singh as he continues to impress at the Sony Open

Phil Mickelson knows the feeling of being the elder statesman on a tour. The HyFlyers captain is the oldest player on LIV Golf, with the left-hander turning 56 in June.

Mickelson finished second to Singh on a couple of occasions on the PGA Tour. And on social media, he was full of praise for just how dedicated the veteran is to the game.

Vijay Singh, an apology

Singh has silenced many who were disappointed to see him take up a card this season.

It did seem to be a strange decision. He has not played in a regular PGA Tour event since The Honda Classic in 2021.

Of course, Singh has more than earned the right to take the opportunity afforded to him – just as Brooks Koepka has done this month in different circumstances.

And he is showing that he still has plenty to offer. He succeeded this week where the likes of Collin Morikawa and Keegan Bradley fell short in making the cut in Hawaii.

Singh goes into the final round four shots back of the top 10. Ultimately, it is difficult to imagine that he will be able to catch up given just how many players there are ahead of him.

But it certainly would not be a surprise to see Singh finish the week without posting a single over-par round.
