The LIV Golf season is due to get underway this weekend in Riyadh but one of the top stars of the tour, Phil Mickelson, will be missing.
Mickelson is very much still one of the big draws on the LIV Golf circuit and has been a big advocate for the whole product ever since defecting from the PGA Tour.
However, while Mickelson has been banging the LIV drum in recent weeks, he has now confirmed that he’s suffered an injury that will see him miss the season opener in Saudi Arabia.

Mickelson, as mentioned in his statement, is hoping to play in LIV Adelaide. The Australian leg of the tour was one of the big success stories for LIV in 2024.
However, this time, they’ll go without one of their top stars, with this weekend’s winner in the International Series India, Ollie Schniederjans taking Mickelson’s place.
Phil Mickelson’s injury history explored as he missed LIV Golf Riyadh
At 54, Phil Mickelson can probably be excused for picking up a few more injuries nowadays but in the main, he’s never been a player seriously hampered by constant problems.
Sure, Mickelson suffers with psoriatic arthritis, but he manages that and continues to play on.
He did break his leg back in 1994, while he had an ongoing wrist problem in 2007 which kept hindering his game.
Small back issues have also played into Mickelson’s career but the American has spoken before on not obsessing over power, which he believes is the root of back issues for many players.
