For the average golfer, getting around a golf course with your strongest hand is hard enough, so the idea of playing with the weaker hand is one of the toughest things to contemplate trying.
Of course, we see on the PGA Tour that players sometimes have to take a weak-handed shot if the lie dictates, likewise, we often see some crazy innovation as well.
But still, if a player can help it, they will go around a golf course playing with their comfortable side.
Naturally, the question of how good a PGA Tour player would be with their weaker hand is often brought up and we’ve seen YouTubers like Rick Shiels try and play left-handed.
And while we’ve heard stories over the years of how good someone like Phil Mickelson is with his right hand and it’s well known that Rickie Fowler has shot a 75 with his weak side, recent PGA Tour winner Matt McCarty has bluntly given his expectations.
Matt McCarty says what his handicap would be if he played golf with the wrong hand

Speaking on the GOLF’s Sub-Par podcast, McCarty got onto a host of subjects and answered honestly.
And when asked about how he’d play with his weaker hand, McCarty admitted that he’d struggle to even register a handicap.
“I wouldn’t have one. I wouldn’t play. I wouldn’t be able to break 100. I have nothing that way, no chance,” McCarty said.
“I could probably putt and chip okay but it would take me a dozen shots to get to every green.”
Golf is hard enough
It’s actually quite refreshing to hear a PGA Tour player speak about how bad they’d be at something rather than coming across as super-human.
At the end of the day, Matt McCarty is just a regular guy who is very good at golf. But like most of us mere mortals, when it comes to using the opposite hands or feet, it’s just not happening.
Of course, it would be extremely interesting to see a full PGA Tour field go around playing with the opposite hand.
The scoring would be fun, and you can just imagine someone like Mickelson coming out on top.
