Collin Morikawa came up just short at The Sentry this weekend and his misfortune could be about to continue after he made some rather blunt comments after his final round.
Morikawa finished on 32 under par but it was no match for the winner, Hideki Matsuyama, who set a new course record of -35 to win his 11th PGA Tour event.
However, while the American’s performance was impressive, it was his post-round interview that caught the eye as he used a bit of colourful language.
“Yeah – **** – excuse my language, but 35-under par is, that’s low. I mean, he was matching me yesterday shot for shot, and I felt like I was playing lights out, right? Like, yes, you could leave some shots out there, but you shoot 11-under on any golf course, you’re going to be happy, right? Today he just never let up,” Morikawa said.
“Then you get to the third hole and the guy holes it. I just knew I had to be on top of everything, and just kind of let a few slip on that front nine. Played a good back nine, but to win on a course like this, conditions like this, you got to have it for 72, and I had it for 65.”
But while golf has been calling for more personality from PGA Tour players, Morikawa is likely to find himself in trouble.
And according to Ryan Lavner and Rex Hoggard, it’s another ludicrous decision from the TOUR.

Speaking on the latest Golf Channel Podcast, golf analysts Lavner and Hoggard had their say on the incoming fine Morikawa will get.
And Lavner in particular is not impressed.
“He has got a point! Is Collin Morikawa going to get fined for this? This is ridiculous! We want our PGA Tour players to show more personality. To be more open with the media. This is as open and honest as we have ever seen Collin Morikawa with the media and he’s probably going to get a fine,” Lavner complained.
Speaking further on the matter, Hoggard agreed, as he suggested the TOUR is the ‘no fun league’ at times.
“In this case, I love the honesty but he is going to get fined. That is just how the Tour works. It is the no fun league sometimes when it comes to these things, but you can’t debate what he said!
“Maybe he shouldn’t have said it on a family programme, but you can’t debate it when he is rolling like that and you run up against someone who shoots 35 under over four rounds. He probably has to feel a bit snake bitten here, but I love the fact that he was able to keep pace with him.”

With fans complaining about the Kapalua Course and how easy it was, it goes without saying that people will be expecting a tougher challenge in 2026.
However, it does seem talks are already underway to make The Sentry a bit tougher.
The Golf Channel’s Mark Rolfing has claimed discussions are underway, albeit nothing is signed just yet.
“It’s not a done deal yet, no firm decision has been made. But I tell you there’s been a number of discussions this week about doing just exactly what Brandel suggested, and that is turn number five into a par four, which it is a par four,” he said.
“I don’t think you have to do anything to do the hole, you don’t need to build a new tee or anything else. You just need to change the number on the card. It’s just way too short in today’s world, and the players are hitting eight or nine iron into that green, most of them.”
The Sentry won’t be alone in this criticism though, and through the season, we’re likely to see more events come under similar scrutiny.
