Tiger Woods is the leading candidate to be named as the US Ryder Cup captain for the showdown at Adare Manor in 2027.
Woods surprisingly doesn’t have the best record in the Ryder Cup, but it’s a competition that means so much to the 15-time major champion.
It has been claimed that Tiger Woods is the PGA of America’s number one choice for the Ryder Cup captaincy in Ireland, as the United States look to win on the road for the first time since 1993.

The 50-year-old’s stellar career has led to this point when he could become the ultimate saviour for the US team.
On Tuesday, Woods responded when asked whether he’s spoken to the PGA of America about the Ryder Cup captaincy.
“Yeah, they have asked me for my input on it, and I haven’t made my decision yet,“ Woods admitted.
“I’m trying to figure out what we’re trying to do with our tour. That’s been driving me hours upon hours every day and trying to figure out if I can actually do our team, our Team USA and our players and everyone that’s going to be involved in the Ryder Cup, if I can do it justice with my time.
“Serving on two boards and what I’m doing for the PGA TOUR, I’m trying to figure out if I can actually do this and serve the people that are involved and serve them at an honorable level.“
So, when will the PGA of America decide to name their captain? Will they give Tiger as long as he wants to make the decision?
PGA of America told to give Tiger Woods a Ryder Cup deadline
The 2027 edition of the Ryder Cup will be vitally important for the United States.
As mentioned earlier, they have not won away from home for 33 years now and they’ve lost eight of the last 12 meetings with the Europeans.
So could Woods be the man to bring glory back to the USA?
He could be, but a deadline needs to be set according to Ryan Lavner.
Lavner and Rex Hoggard were speaking about Tiger Woods’ press conference on The Golf Channel Podcast with Rex and Lav on Wednesday.
And Lavner responded when asked what he made of Woods’ comments about potentially being the Ryder Cup captain at Adare Manor in 2027.
“It certainly is amazing, and I have to say, it sounded almost exactly like what we heard in the spring and early summer of 2024,“ Lavner said.
“The ball is in Tiger’s court, and he’s trying to figure out the various time commitments that he has and the various functions and the various roles that he has, what he can and can’t do, and would he be doing an injustice to the Ryder Cup, which he he loves, would he be doing an injustice to the U.S. Ryder Cup team as its captain?
“If he cannot devote himself fully to it, and obviously, that’s how the situation sort of haphazardly ended with the announcement of Keegan Bradley as the Ryder Cup captain, despite Keegan Bradley being among the top 20 players in the world ranking, being very competitive and vying for signature titles on the PGA Tour.
“The U.S. Team has not won on the road since 1993. They need to have a plan in place.
“If I’m the PGA of America, I’m giving Tiger a hard deadline – ‘We’d love to have you. You by far our number one choice, but we have to get it planned in place to make sure we’re giving ourselves the best opportunity to win on the road for the first time in more than three decades’.
“I don’t think that’s too much to ask.“
That’s a very fair comment from Lavner.
PGA of America must make Tiger Woods decision soon
The PGA of America need to ensure that they give the team the best chance possible of bringing the Ryder Cup trophy back to US soil in 2027.

Tiger is not ruling it out…
And not naming a Ryder Cup captain while waiting for Tiger Woods to make a decision will not be conducive to doing that.
Winning a Ryder Cup away from home is always an incredibly difficult thing to do.
However, Europe have managed to do it four times since the USA’s last victory on foreign soil.
The PGA of America need to select their captain for 2027 as soon as possible, so that the Americans head into the face-off with Team Europe with total clarity and a clear game plan in mind.
Tiger Woods is obviously the first choice to be the US Ryder Cup captain at Adare Manor.
However, as Woods admitted, it would be an injustice to the team if he is unable to commit enough time to the job.
