Paul Waring picked up the biggest win of his career as he won the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi to secure a PGA Tour card for 2025.

Waring had won just once in his career before finishing 24-under par over in the Middle East to secure a big win ahead of Tyrrell Hatton and Rory McIlroy a bit further back.

For Waring, the win has huge consequences and means he now qualifies to play on the PGA Tour next year.

Of course, a number of players play in PGA Tour and DP World Tour events but in general, the big money is there to be made over in America.

Waring, naturally, could have a big decision to make then and according to Sky’s Wayne ‘Radar’ Riley, there is a big conversation for the 39-year-old to have with his team.

Wayne Riley sends message to Paul Waring about the PGA Tour after his win at the HSBC Championship

Speaking on Sky Sports about the potential for Waring to go and play the PGA Tour full-time or mix it with the DP World Tour events, Riley suggested it’s a tricky balancing act.

“That is very hard, I have done it myself, play DP World Tour golf and PGA Tour golf. It is very difficult. Will he do it? He might say no. I’m sure he will play some of it. It’s very hard for him to get into the big elevated events. I’m sure he will go out there,” Riley said.

“One thing is for certain, he will be out here for the Dubai Desert Classic and the match play event, the team event.

“He will look at it and I’m sure they will think about it with his management and his wife. And think how much? Am I going to give myself until April and then we have to remember, he has two years on the DP World Tour. If he wants to he could base himself in Florida and play it full time.”

Waring cannot turn down PGA Tour chance

As it stands, Waring has rocketed himself into contention for a place in the Ryder Cup for Team Europe and surely, he has to seize the moment and compete on the PGA Tour to enhance those chances further.

Not many players get the opportunity to compete both on the DP and PGA at the same time and for a player like Waring, the financial rewards on offer will also play a part.

As Riley says here, it can be a tough balancing act to play on both.

But as Riley also says, there’s also a chance to move to America and play most of the events while making trips back to Europe or around the world for the bigger DP events.

Time will tell, but this feels like something Waring won’t pass up.
