The PGA Tour and LIV Golf could soon confirm a merger, but what any such merger looks like remains to be seen.
Jay Monahan confirmed ‘substantial’ talks have taken place between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which funds LIV Golf.
But for now the rival tours continue to go in separate directions, with the PGA Tour continuing this week with the Players Championship.
LIV Golf meanwhile heads to Singapore, with a long list of former PGA Tour players taking part in the event.
And the DP World Tour, which has also been an important figure in the talks, prepares for the Asian Swing.

Paul McGinley shares PGA Tour and LIV Golf Proposal for Unity
Recently Paul McGinley predicted a merger before the Masters, with the Irishman now sharing his ‘Proposal for Unity’ between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf on Golf Channel.
Included in McGinley’s suggestion ahead of the Players Championship this week is allowing the leading 10 players from LIV to play at the event, along with five Signature Events.
- PGA Tour and LIV continue
- LIV players get unrestricted access to DP World Tour
- Leading 10 players from LIV get to play in: The Players, five Signature Events
- LIV gives access to two PGA Tour teams for LIV season finale
- PIF matches SSG investment of $1.5billion into PGA Tour Enterprises
Brandel Chamblee says Paul McGinley’s PGA Tour and LIV proposal would cause ‘uproar’
It is, of course, a very tricky and delicate situation that the PGA Tour finds itself in, with a long list of important factors at stake.
Not everyone will be left satisfied with whatever is agreed upon, if indeed the two rivals can indeed reach an agreement.
But McGinley’s intriguing proposal has not pleased Brandel Chamblee, who responded: “Allowing LIV players to come back and immediately go into Signature Events like the Players, they should have to earn their way back there.
“It is very difficult to judge how they are playing on a tour with so few players and so little competition. Their result last year in major championships certainly bare that out.
| Tournament | Date |
| The Sentry | Dec. 30-5 |
| AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am | Jan. 27-Feb. 2 |
| The Genesis Invitational | Feb. 10-16 |
| Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard | March 3-9 |
| RBC Heritage | April 14-20 |
| Truist Championship | May 5-11 |
| The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday | May 26-June 1 |
| Travelers Championship | June 16-22 |
“People remember what Bryson DeChambeau did but if you look at the top 10 players on LIV their average finish in major championships last year was about 43rd, so it’s not like they were setting the world on fire.
“By the way, I looked at the top 10 on the PGA Tour and it was substantially better than that. So there is no real way to assess how competitive they are, so to grant them rights back into a Signature Event, the Players Championship, would not only be wrong but it would cause an uproar on the PGA Tour. These guys stayed, they didn’t leave, they didn’t instigate the legal suits.”
