Patrick Reed isn’t afraid of voicing an opinion or two and it was little surprise to see him be one of the big-name players to join LIV Golf back in 2022.

Reed, who has nine wins on the PGA Tour and a Masters to his name, has often been a controversial figure and is well known for his battles with Rory McIlroy over the years.

Still, as it stands, Reed’s only chance of competing with McIlroy is through the DP World Tour events – such as the Desert Classic this weekend – and the majors.

McIlroy has remained very much loyal to the PGA Tour, whereas Reed took his first opportunity to leave and hasn’t looked back.

However, unlike others, Reed hasn’t slammed the PGA Tour and has suggested that, in fact, he’d be open to playing on there again.

Patrick Reed gives his verdict on if he misses playing the PGA Tour

Speaking to Bunkered, Reed, was asked about the possibility of returning to PGA events and if he missed playing certain weeks.

And according to Reed, he’d very much embrace playing on multiple tours if the PGA allowed it.

“It depends,” Reed said. “There’s events you miss playing. Their minimum is 15 events. If I had the opportunity – just like I did when I came over here and played at Wentworth during Covid, and all the other guys that were staples of this Tour that stayed home in the US like ‘I’ve got Covid, I can’t come over’.

“There’s a reason why I flew over and played. To show those guys and other people that, hey, it’s their flagship event. If you’re part of that tour you should support them. Some of those guys have enough money to get private jets and fly all around the world.

“If I had the opportunity, if they came up to me and said you’ve got a PGA Tour card and you can play on any tour, I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw me meet the minimum number of events on every tour.”

Patrick Reed’s biggest controversies in golf

When it comes to headlines, Patrick Reed has been one of the big players in the golf world over the last decade or so, and often for reasons many would rather not be involved with.

Controversy has followed Reed round at times, from his 2014 slur after missing a putt at the WGC-HSBC Championship – which he apologised for – to his suggestion of not being a big enough name to get free relief at the Arnold Palmer in 2018.

Perhaps one of Reed’s most controversial moments came at the 2018 Hero Challenge, where camera footage saw him clearly improving his lie after finding the rough.

Finally, in 2023, Reed was accused of cheating over in Dubai after he deemed his ball had got lost in the wrong place.

While Reed remains one of golf’s biggest personalities, it’s safe to say he’s had his fair share of issues and over time, that’s led to the average golf fan giving him a tough time out on the fairways.
