Eight-time PGA Tour event winner Patrick Cantlay has shared an injury update ahead of The Open Championship, which gets underway at Royal Troon on July 18.
The 32-year-old, who finished T5 at the Travelers Championship, has withdrawn from this week’s John Deere Classic at TPC Deer Run.
With The Open Championship just a matter of weeks away, the American could face a race against time to be fit for the final major of the season.
Now, after confirming his withdrawal, Cantlay has posted an update on his personal X account.
Patrick Cantlay injury update ahead of The Open Championship

Cantlay confirmed that the decision was taken with an “abundance” of caution.
He wrote: “While training for the John Deere Classic, I sustained an injury. Out of an abundance of caution and on the advice of my team, I unfortunately have to miss this week’s event.”
The American did confirm that he hopes to return to competition as soon as the year’s final major hones into view.
“We are optimistic about a speedy return to competition,” he added. “Thanks to the fans in the Quad Cities for your support, and I hope to see you next year!”
Patrick Cantlay suffers injury setback at the wrong time
After finishing T3 at the US Open and in the top five at the Travelers, this injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Cantlay.
He appeared to be finding form at precisely the right time and would’ve fancied his chances of competing at the John Deere.
Now, the 32-year-old must ensure he’s fit for the final major of the year. After running close previously, he will fancy his chances at Royal Troon, provided he can participate.
On the FedEx Cup leaderboard, Cantlay is firmly within the top ten and will almost certainly make it to the Tour Championship despite his injury woes.
