Scottie Scheffler put in a dominant performance at The Open Championship last week.

After a week of fairly benign conditions at Royal Portrush, world number one Scheffler emerged victorious, winning The Open by four shots.

The 29-year-old from Dallas, Texas, is just too good for everyone else right now, and he made winning The Open look far too easy.

Scheffler’s putting at The Open was truly sensational, and his newly discovered confidence on the greens is terrible news for his competitors.

The world number one continues to impress with his exceptional consistency. He has finished inside the top-25 in all 16 PGA Tour events he has played this season.

Incredibly, Scheffler actually received criticism from some sections of the media for the lack of passion that he displayed during his victory speech.

To criticise a man for simply being who he is just seems utterly bizarre to me, and the encouraging thing is that plenty of people actually agree with that sentiment.

Pat McAfee is an American sports analyst, mostly known for his contributions to the NFL and College Football.

However, McAfee has a keen interest in golf as well, and his podcast often centres around the goings on in the world of professional golf.

And during his latest show, his attention turned to Scheffler’s brilliance.

McAfee said: “It’s like any time he needs a shot he shows up and does it. I hate to kind of harp on this, because it does feel like it steals the chatter a bit.

“People are like Scottie is not entertaining enough to be a top man, leading man. Does he have the personality of the guys in the past? Tiger we had the red shirt on Sunday, the fist bump, the intensity.
What do we have with Scottie? What we have with Scottie is that every shot is a good one.

“And he’s starting to show a little more emotion. He is starting to introduce himself to the world a little bit more.

“He is giving some deep, perspective takes about life and golf and his deal as a professional athlete and how he views it.

“I want to let Scottie Scheffler know, we love you buddy. You are great for sports.“

McAfee then went on to praise Scheffler even further still.

He said: “Scottie Scheffler might be the relatable, normal, awesome dawg in the history of sports. He is a dawg! To get this good you have to be dialled in, you have to know every little thing about your swing, the golf ball, the golf course and everything else that is happening around you.

“To do that the amount of work you have to put in is absurd. We would like to say to Scottie we appreciate the hell out of your commitment to sport and we appreciate the hell out of your commitment to you.“

His rivals must look at those stats and wonder to themselves what chance they actually have.

With the 29-year-old’s improved putting, he may well go on to reach a whole new level of dominance in the game.

Scheffler’s victory at The Open was as easy as they come in major championships, and he deserves the utmost credit for the way he goes about his business.
