PGA Tour veteran Padraig Harrington has admitted his surprise at one thing he saw LIV Golf players do at Augusta this year.

It’s been a tough start to 2024 for the Irishman, who has missed cuts in three of his four outings to date.

Harrington didn’t feature in the year’s first major but was still present due to various media commitments.

During his time at Augusta, the 52-year-old noticed something very different about the LIV Golf contingent who were competing.

Speaking on Peter Finch’s Rough Cut Podcast, Harrington has opened up on the level of expletives he noticed from players from the breakaway tour.

He said: “A side-effect which I was surprised about. There was quite a bit on the Masters last week. There was an awful lot of extra expletives from LIV players.

“Clearly, LIV players don’t get fined for expletives, and I am not saying they’re encouraged, but they’re certainly not discouraged from doing it.

“Those players who might have held back in the past and who are now LIV players were letting go fully. I don’t mind the odd bit of cursing, but you know, there’s got to be some restrictions on it. It was interesting.”

What are the PGA Tour rules regarding foul language?

The PGA Tour is renowned for its uncompromising stance on foul and abusive language. The authorities are known for fining players from time to time, with Tiger Woods arguably the most constant offender.

Suggestions have even been made to remove on-course microphones to prevent the watching audience from hearing any such profanities in the first instance.

Unsurprisingly, LIV appear to be far more accommodating. Harrington’s revelation clearly shows that the Saudi-backed tour are more than happy to have their fairways littered with expletives in another attempt to distance themselves from tradition.
