This week’s Waste Management Open in Phoenix has garnered its usual attention from afar but it might have just overstepped the mark this year.

The WM Open in Arizona is known for its raucous crowds around the 16th hole and in general, is usually well received by players and pundits alike.

However, with frost and rain delays this year making the event a touch longer and leaving fans impatient in the stands, things have boiled over a touch.

Indeed, some of the golfers playing this week have been left unhappy with the behaviour around the course.

One of those golfers was South Korean star An Byeong-Hun. After missing the cut, the 32-year-old took to social media to offer his response to a question about Saturday’s state of play.

And not mincing his words on social media, Byeong-Hun simply replied with ‘Sh**shows. Totally out of control on every hole’.

Waste Management Open descends into chaos

There’ll be people who like the fact that fans get so involved in a golf tournament but this week has felt a bit different.

There were rumours yesterday of alcohol sales being suspended as things got too out of hand and that is not something anyone wants to see at a golf tournament.

Some of the scenes of fans running onto the course and diving into bunkers or sliding down the wet hills onto the fairways are just ridiculous really.

It’s all good having a fun time and soaking up the atmosphere but there is a feeling that things have gone a touch too far this time around.
