The PGA Tour has added yet another signature event to the schedule for 2026 but while it’s a chance for more money to be made for golf’s biggest names, it’s not gone down well with everyone.
Some within golf circles see the signature events as being weighted towards the bigger names in the game and we’ve seen all year how the likes of Rickie Fowler have managed to get invites even when not playing well.
Another top American player to benefit from these events is Jordan Spieth.
Spieth is nowhere near the player he was and despite Gary Player claiming Spieth was the best golfer in the world, the three-time major winner has looked nowhere near his best for a while.

Still, Spieth is one of the top names in the game and with that, he often gets the invites other players would crave.
Now, though, Spieth has been called out by a fellow TOUR player.

Angry Robert Garrigus challenges Jordan Spieth over sponsor exemptions
Nobody in the world would question Spieth as being one of the biggest names in the game.
Likewise, nobody would say he’s not a top ten player when he’s on his game, it’s just we’ve not seen it for so long.
However, according to a report from Golfweek, Spieth’s constant recognition when it comes to getting invites to the signature events has irked fellow TOUR player, Robert Garrigus.
After being told of the new signature event by another player, James Hahn, Garrigus apparently fumed and at the same time, challenged Spieth.
“What is happening to our Tour?” Garrigus remarked.
“So, does that mean one more sponsor invite for Jordan Spieth? Tell Spieth I’ll play him for any amount he wants. I win, I get his five invites to the signature events.”
Quite whether Spieth will see and read these comments and reply, remains to be seen.
But for now, it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall if Spieth and Garrigus cross paths.
Jordan Spieth and Robert Garrigus’ PGA Tour careers in numbers
Jordan Spieth is the household name out of these two but that doesn’t mean Garrigus hasn’t been around the game for a long time.
Now 47, Garrigus has been a pro since 1997 and a TOUR player since 2006 and has racked up 384 PGA Tour events in that time, winning just the one event.
Spieth, of course, has 13 career wins, including those three majors.
| Jordan Spieth | Robert Garrigus | |
| Events played | 300 | 384 |
| Wins | 13 | 1 |
| Top 10s | 93 | 33 |
| Top 5s | 56 | 20 |
| Money made ($USD) | $65,901,630 | $14,986,941 |
In terms of the numbers over their careers, Spieth’s record smashes Garrigus’ out of the park. And with time on his side, he could add even more to his resume before the time comes to stop playing the game.
