Niall Horan has predicted how successful he believes TGL could prove to be after the singer recently was announced as a part owner in Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common team.

Golf fans are still awaiting the first season of TGL, with its inaugural campaign delayed by one year until 2025.

Many of the world’s best are set to be involved in the venture, with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy helping form the league. As things stand, six teams are set to compete in an indoor event which sees players play on a simulator.

McIlroy will feature on Boston Common, alongside Adam Scott, Keegan Bradley and Hideki Matsuyama. And it was announced on June that Niall Horan has become a part owner in the team.

Niall Horan expresses excitement for TGL

Speaking on The Scoop, Horan explained how he came to be involved in the Boston team, while he also expressed his excitement for how big the league can become.

“It actually came around through Rory, Rory being Irish, being on the team, me being Irish also, but also me working in golf, and talking about how I want to grow the game all the time, and I feel like TGL is the next great thing that’s going to happen to the game of golf,” he said.

“Last year was obviously the first time that more simulator shots had been hit outdoors, so this is obviously where the game is going, and then Boston just felt like the perfect affiliation for me, there’s always been a massive thing between the Irish and the Bostonians.”

So much intrigue surrounding new format

It is going to be fascinating to see just how successful TGL does become as it is very different to anything that is being played at the highest levels of the game.

While Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will no longer be involved after their moves to LIV Golf, TGL has got such an impressive roster, with 13 of their players boasting major championship titles. And the likes of Ludvig Aberg and Tom Kim will probably add to that tally in the future.

There is definitely the potential for TGL to attract new fans to the game, and perhaps create a new avenue for the sport in the same way T20 has changed cricket.
