Nelly Korda is among the stars looking to end years of Team USA misery at the Solheim Cup this week.

Lexi Thompson is the most experienced US player, but Korda heads into the Solheim Cup sitting at the very top of the world rankings.

The world number one has, however, yet to emerge victorious from her three appearances at the biennial team competition.

Korda was on the losing side in 2019, 2021 and 2023, with Team Europe retaining the trophy after last year’s 14-14 tie.

The American lost 2&1 in her singles match with Carlota Ciganda in Malaga last September, with that result seeing the hosts retain the Solheim Cup.

Nelly Korda says there is ‘nothing like’ the Solheim Cup

She has now earned a captain’s pick from Stacy Lewis, in what could be Thompson’s final Solheim Cup appearance.

Korda will undoubtedly be relying on her experienced US teammate, with the world number one excited to get going on home soil.

“Obviously I haven’t been on the winning side, but every experience I’ve had in the Solheim Cups has been an amazing one,” said Korda, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“I think it’s something super exciting too and refreshing to have a team-mate, have team-mates and captains and people to lean on when you normally don’t.

“There’s nothing like it. There’s nothing like walking on to that first tee and feeling all those nerves. We have a great group of girls. We have a great group of guys.

“We have a great captain. We have really great assistant captains. Hopefully it all falls into place and we play some really good golf for the fans out here this week.”

Can Nelly Korda help Team USA win the Solheim Cup?

Korda could line up alongside Allisen Corpuz in Virginia, with the pair having practised together on Tuesday ahead of the event.

And having won both of their foursomes matches last time out in Spain, Team USA captain Lewis is very likely to match them together once more.

All eyes will, however, be on Korda, who boasts six LPGA Tour wins in 2024, including the Chevron Championship.

But she is seemingly more than up for the challenge, with Korda saying: “Whenever you get to wear the red, white, and blue and stars and stripes, there’s a different meaning to it.

“You’re playing not just for yourself, but for your captains, for your team-mates and your country, and there’s just nothing like it. We have got some unfinished business.”

Korda wants a Solheim Cup at Le Golf National, having represented Team USA at the French course at the Olympics earlier this summer.

The 19th edition of the Solheim Cup, which starts on Friday, will be hosted by the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia.
