Nelly Korda remains winless on the LPGA Tour in 2025 after the first major of the season, the Chevron Championship.

Korda put in a decent performance in defence of her title at The Club at Carlton Woods without really looking like winning again.

The American finished in a tie for 14th position at two under par as Japanese golfer Mao Saigo eventually won via a five-man playoff.

Golf expert Amy Rogers has since explained that there’s one clear reason for Korda’s perceived underperformance in 2025.

Amy Rogers explains Nelly Korda’s ‘problem’ this season

After winning seven times on the LPGA Tour last season, many expected Korda to continue her dominance of the sport this year.

While she remains world number one by a wide margin, it’s fair to say that recent months have not gone to plan.

Rogers thinks that her disappointing start to the season has more to do with unrealistic “expectations,” both externally and internally, than anything else.

“Well, I think if we look at her results so far, obviously it has not been the start to the year that we expected to see from Nelly Korda, but I think there lies the problem: the expectations,” she said.

“Not only the expectations that the media and fans have after what she did last year, winning seven times, but also the pressure and expectations she has put on herself.

“I know I’ve heard in the past, last season, that she would read everything. She was very aware of what was going on in the media and how she was being covered. I’m not sure how well she’s able to insulate herself from some of that.”

Nelly Korda’s finishes in 2025 LPGA Tour season

Korda’s highest finish of the 2025 LPGA Tour season to date came at the HGV Tournament of Champions in February, when she finished second to A-lim Kim.

She’s not been in bad form since then, consistently finishing inside the top 25, but she hasn’t come particularly close to winning.

Obviously, as Rogers pointed out, expectations of her might be too high, but she earned that pressure with her outstanding play last season.

Korda is actually in a similar situation to men’s world number one Scottie Scheffler, who has also played solid golf in 2025 without any victories. Expect both to win again soon.
