Nacho Elvira has recreated a brilliant Seve Ballesteros moment while taking part in an elimination challenge alongside a number of other tour pros.
Nacho Elvira joined the likes of Thorbjorn Olesen, Adam Scott and Cameron Young in the challenge ahead of the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour this week.
Eight players played a par three, and the player furthest away from the hole in each round was eliminated.

Of course, none of the players will be that bothered with their performance in the challenge. But as the numbers whittled down, it did appear that the mood became slightly more competitive.

In one round, Adrian Meronk decided to ask Nacho Elvira whether he was the last player to go – but, as the Spaniard was addressing the ball. That prompted the 36-year-old to back away, before saying to Meronk: ‘I know you’re nervous, but I am nervous too’.
Given the light-hearted nature of the competition, it would be no surprise if Elvira was quoting his idol Seve Ballesteros.
The late great five-time major champion brilliantly used the same phrase when a fan disturbed him ahead of a shot at the 1991 PGA Championship at Wentworth – a tournament Seve went on to win. It is also a tournament which was played two years before Meronk was even born.
Spaniard unable to challenge idol’s brilliance at Dubai Desert Classic
Elvira was not quite as successful as his countryman as he was eliminated after making the final four. Dan Bradbury proved to be the winner in the end.
And unfortunately, it proved to be a frustrating opening round for Elvira at the Dubai Desert Classic. The 2021 Cazoo Open champion carded a three over 75 to leave him eight shots back of the leaders.
And it seems that the challenge may not have helped him too much. Elvira bogeyed two of the par threes, while he made par on the other two.
