The women’s major championship season concluded this weekend as Miyu Yamashita won The Women’s Open.

Yamashita beat Charley Hull and fellow Japanese golfer Minami Katsu by two strokes to lift the trophy at Royal Porthcawl.

Her victory meant that all five majors in 2025 were won by different golfers, highlighting the depth of quality in the women’s game.

Even though she did not repeat her Scottish Open success this week, Lottie Woad is the latest example of that growing talent pool.

Minjee Lee thinks there is more ‘talent’ on the LPGA Tour than ever before

Three-time major champion Minjee Lee has noticed a difference in the LPGA Tour from her debut in 2014 to now.

The Australian golfer thinks there are far more quality players these days and that Woad, who she played with at Royal Porthcawl, is evidence of that.

“It’s totally, totally different from obviously when I started,” Lee said about the growth of women’s golf after The Women’s Open.

“I think I said this before, it was a little more top-heavy, but I feel like the depth of the field goes… I don’t really know if there’s like that much of a gap now. It’s very… everybody is younger and talented and really fearless.

“I played with Lottie today, and she played great. Yeah, they’re just… I feel like they don’t really care as much. Maybe they need a couple more years to get more experience, and they will (laughter).

“No, they’re just… they just feel like… I feel like everybody’s crushing it, and it’s getting better and better, all the talent.”

Minjee Lee reflects on 2025 major championship season

Lee reminded everyone that she’s still one of the best golfers in the world at the Women’s PGA Championship this summer.

She had not won any event since the BMW Ladies Championship in October 2023 until her three-stroke victory at PGA Frisco.

Lee also finished in the top five at the Evian Championship and in the top 25 at the other three majors.

“I think from where I was at the beginning of the year, and obviously winning KPMG and playing Chevron and having a good finish at Evian and all right at the US Open and all right here,” she reflected on her season.

“So I feel like I… I’m going to say I’ve done pretty well. Maybe like an 8 1/2.”
