Min Woo Lee is in contention at the Rocket Mortgage Classic heading into the weekend after carding a fine round of four under in round two.

The 25-year-old Australian has been one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour in recent times and he’s looking to score a first win on tour after playing more than 40 events.

Going into this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Lee knew he was in with a chance with so many big names missing.

The likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are missing, while Xander Schauffele is another big name to miss the event.

However, it is 22-year-old Akshay Bhatia who is leading the field after two rounds. His 13-under is the best score, some five ahead of Min Woo.

The pair played their second round together though and seemed to help each other along.

And commenting on the pairing, Lee has admitted that it feels a bit strange knowing he’s the more experienced of the two.

Min Woo Lee explains what’s ‘weird’ about playing with Akshay Bhatia

Speaking in his flash interview after carding a four under round to sit five off the lead, Lee explained that he finds it a little odd playing alongside Bhatia and now being the elder statesmen of the pair.

“I mean we’re good friends. It’s funny when we talk like I feel like I’m his age or I was his age last year and I’m now three or four years older than him. I don’t know, it feels weird but I guess I’m getting a little older,” Lee said.

“But it’s nice to have a friend and also play with a friend. Also Steven’s a very nice guy. We all just chatted and kind of fed off of each other which is great.”

Lee will be hoping to card a low score in round three to try and reel in Bhatia.

However, the 22-year-old has been on fine form and with Aaron Rai also 13 under, and the in-form Cameron Young not far behind either, the Aussie knows he has work to do.
