Max Homa has managed to get himself in contention at the Bank of Utah Championship despite some discomfort and he’s been giving his verdict on the golf course being played.
The Black Desert Resort is well known to players in the United States and after coming home in 66 for his second round, Homa very much got the better of the layout in the end.
Any PGA Tour track is going to be difficult, of course. But some are trickier than others, whether that be consistent hole difficulty, or sometimes when things seem too easy and the brain switches off.

Indeed, speaking about the challenges at Black Desert, Homa spoke to the media afterwards and conceded there’s a lot to think about.

Max Homa says why Black Desert Resort is so ‘tricky’
After picking up a bit of an injury, it was great to see Max Homa battle through and put himself in contention to win.
Sitting down in T14, Homa is only four shots off the lead and with a solid third day, he could find himself firmly in the mix come Sunday.
And when discussing the actual golf course, Homa admitted why it had suited him, with particular attention on the greens.
“It’s a very unique golf course. There is a very small handful of very difficult shots, and the rest are pretty turn your brain off. It fits my game really well. Not necessarily my eye, but fits my game,” Homa explained.
“I hit my irons really well. Been hitting them really well. This week the greens are crazy, but I feel like that kind of let’s maybe kind of get artistic on the greens, around the greens a lot of short grass I’ve been chipping well on.
“So it fits a lot of things. I just have to get more comfortable with the lines. There is just a couple tee shots where it’s just not 100 percent sure exact middle and left and right boundaries.
Yeah, for the most part just getting use to it. The elevation makes everything tricky. The morning is easier. It just goes back to what we normally play. But it’s a phenomenal golf course. The greens are great. I love how firm it’s getting. It’s been pretty awesome. I’m surprised I didn’t come here last year given how cool this place is.”

PGA Tour winner in danger of losing his card after two rounds of the Bank of Utah Championship
While Homa is sitting pretty inside the top 20 in Utah, the same cannot be said for some seasoned veterans of the PGA Tour.
A number of high profile players and names are struggling at Black Desert and with that, there is a risk they’re going to lose their tour cards.
Indeed, Camilo Villegas was one of those players after a nightmare opening round and things have got even worse for him after he withdrew after round two.
With the season right into its final weeks and events now, it’s going to be a nervous time for a number of players and while Homa looks to be getting into some form, others around him like Villegas could be in for an anxious end to the year.
