While Max Homa has not had the easiest time on the PGA Tour this year, he has been the envy of many golf fans over the first few months of 2025 having been a teammate of Tiger Woods.

For much of his career, it was thought that Tiger Woods was not particularly comfortable in a team. It seemed to be the most logical explanation for why he could dominate in the majors and yet prove to be very beatable at the Ryder Cup.

However, those perceptions have changed over the last decade in particular. Woods took on being a vice-captain for the 2016 Ryder Cup and captained the Presidents Cup side three years later. Meanwhile, he has co-founded TGL – in which he is teammates with Max Homa.

It was not a good year for Jupiter Links by any means. But it appears that Homa has still relished the chance to spend more time with Woods.

Max Homa shares the most surprising thing about Tiger Woods

Speaking to Golf Digest, Homa was asked about both the coolest and most surprising things about getting to be around the 15-time major champion.

“Part of it, just getting to pick his brain about golf and hear some stories. But honestly, I’d say the kid in me, it’s just getting to talk to him like a normal human. Get to talk about sports and the Dodgers and all that stuff, instead of always golf,” he said, when asked about the coolest aspect.

“That he’s as normal as normal gets, and just really good at golf,” he added, about the most surprising.

What Homa would take from Rory McIlroy’s game

Elsewhere in the Q&A, Homa was asked what he would choose if he could take one skill from another PGA Tour player – and it should probably come as no surprise that he opted for Rory McIlroy.

“I think you’d take Rory’s driving these days. It’s outrageous, and it’s such a necessary skill these days to be dominant,” he said.

There was a slightly more controversial take when Homa was asked whether he would rather win The Open Championship or the Masters.

“Claret Jug, don’t beat me up for that one,” he said.

Of course, McIlroy is one of those who would potentially disagree with Homa. The Masters is the one major the Northern Irishman is yet to win having been a win at Augusta National away from completing the career grand slam for more than a decade now.

Interestingly, it is also the Masters where Homa came closest to winning his first major. He finished in a tie for third in 2024 having seemingly had a genuine chance to win as he stood on the 12th tee on Sunday.

Unfortunately a mistake on that hole ended his challenge as Scottie Scheffler managed to put his foot down.
