While Jupiter Links were always going to be underdogs for their TGL opener with Los Angeles, it proved to be difficult viewing as Tiger Woods, Max Homa and Kevin Kisner suffered a 12-1 loss.
All eyes were on Tiger Woods heading into the second week of TGL. While he is no longer the force he once was out on the golf course, the indoor environment appeared to have the potential to allow him to show a lot more of his quality.
Unfortunately, it proved to be a sobering night for Jupiter Links. Kevin Kisner could seemingly not get to grips with the distances he needed to be hitting, while Max Homa hardly fared much better. Their evening was summed up by Kisner thinning a bunker shot on the penultimate hole which thankfully smashed into the pin.
The writing was certainly on the wall after the first nine holes, with Los Angeles taking an 8-1 lead from the alternate shot format.
What Charlie Woods told Jupiter Links as they headed for heavy defeat in TGL debut
And it turns out that there was little sympathy from those who were meant to be supporting Jupiter Links, including Woods’ own son Charlie. Speaking on the broadcast about trying to turn the match around, Homa joked that there was little encouragement from the stands.

“It started with ‘do better’. Charlie tried to give us a pep talk which was, ‘you’re not very good’, so I don’t know if that was a pep talk. But our spirits are still high. The match last week was a drubbing, so we’re just trying to make this interesting,” he said.
How Tiger Woods’ mom reacted to Jupiter Links’ performance
It turns out that it was not only Charlie Woods who seemed to be revelling in Jupiter’s defeat. Homa expressed some concern that those at home would not be too impressed with his performance, to which Tiger Woods noted that his mother had not held back with her criticism.
“God, my wife is probably so embarrassed right now,” Homa said.
“I have my own box and they’re booing me. My mom’s yelling at me, booing me,” Woods replied.
While Kisner’s bunker shot late in the day provided a moment which could prove to be the highlight of TGL’s first season, there may be a concern for those behind the scenes after two emphatic victories.
Both matches have had a real sense of excitement leading into them. However, with the results largely wrapped up within the first nine holes, there is perhaps a sense that the game actually went on too long.
Of course, when a match is a lot tighter, that will probably not be the case. But it reached a point where it was not enjoyable to watch Kisner particularly struggle.
And while they have Tom Kim to bring in, it is already looking like it is going to be an extremely long season for Jupiter Links.
