The future of the PGA Tour remains unclear as merger discussions between Tour officials and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund rumble on.
Reports from the UK suggested that a $1bn agreement was close, and the talks between the PIF and PGA Tour have progressed positively.
However, the golfing world has learned to proceed with caution over the past 18 months, with plenty of false dawns emerging along the road.
LIV star Tyrrell Hatton hasn’t heard anything about a deal, and Rory McIlroy is also in the dark after reportedly playing an important role in negotiations.
Clearly, there’s still scope for speculation about what could happen, and LIV Golf player Adrian Meronk has caused quite a stir after making a claim about what the future could hold for the PGA Tour.

Meronk suggested a new worldwide league should emerge, which would eventually leave the PGA Tour on its own. “It wouldn’t be the worst thing if the PGA Tour went its own way and everyone else got together and created a worldwide tour everywhere except the United States,” Meronk told Golf Digest. “I like that idea. It would be awesome. The Asian Tour is flourishing right now, so maybe that will happen.”
Max Homa, who is never afraid to cause a stir on social media, has since reacted to the LIV man in a typically sarcastic fashion.
“I, for one, think this is genius and am shocked no one has thought of it before,” Homa wrote on X.
DP World Tour is the worldwide product
Meronk’s idea already exists. The DP World Tour is a worldwide tour that ventures into Australia, Southeast Asia, South Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
Unfortunately, interest levels in the Wentworth-based product are low, with the focus still primarily on the PGA Tour. A global tour, which includes the elite players, is a tempting prospect, but it’s hard to imagine the logistics working at present.
Golf fans have also reacted to Meronk’s comments, and many were quick to highlight the DP World Tour in its current guise.
“Ok, who is going to tell him? ” one fan wrote. Another said, “The DP World Tour, LOL.”
“So, like the DP World Tour?” another added. “Sounds like a Tour I’ve watched….. It’s called the DP Tour,“ this fan sarcastically added.
Finally, this fan wrote: “Doesn’t that already exist with the DP World tour? The DP tour is spectacular, a production showcasing courses and scenery. The commentary! Seriously, they need to up their purses and, voila, an instant world tour with the best players in the world.”
