It’s safe to say Matthew Wolff’s golf career hasn’t quite gone how many predicted from when he first burst onto the scene.

Wolf roared onto the PGA scene back in 2019 as a youngster and won his first tournament that year, beating out Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa to win the 3M Open.

He followed that up by finishing fourth in the PGA in 2020 before going even closer and coming runner up in the US Open.

However, since then, Wolff has had multiple problems with his game while he’s also clashed off the course with a few players, notably Brooks Koepka.

Wolff, who is known for an unusual looking swing anyway, has also drawn ire towards himself for some of his meltdowns on course.

Of course, he’s not the only one to express anger or emotion out there. But sometimes, it can get too much.

And speaking about those outbursts, Wolff has revealed how a small chat with Graeme McDowell actually opened his eyes a lot about his ways.

Matthew Wolff explains what Graeme McDowell said to him after getting angry

Speaking the LIV Golf YouTube podcast, Wolff conceded he needed to be put in his place a bit by McDowell a few years back.

“I remember being on the FedEx and obviously I’m going to tell this story because it’s G-Mac and G-Mac’s on LIV now. We were playing the FedEx St Jude in Memphis and I was p**sed, Wolff said.

“I hit a shot out of the bunker and I was kind of like, m***er f***er to myself and getting all down on myself and like he was about to take it back and I slammed my club in my bag and he backed off.

“And he was like, you know, ok man, I understand, but try and chill a little bit. He said it in a respectful way and it was great but times like that make you realise you have to relax a little bit.”

Wolff is now part of the Range Coats team over in LIV and has recorded three top ten finishes since making the jump to the PIF-backed tour.

He has, though, yet to register a win and it’s now getting on to six years nearly since his last win on a major tour.

Wolff, then, will be hoping these lessons he’s learning along the way can finally reap some rewards when it comes to wins.
