Matthew Fitzpatrick is right in the mix heading into the final round of The Scottish Open.

Fitzpatrick lit up The Renaissance Club on Friday with a sparkling round of seven-under par 63, but his third round at The Scottish Open was tougher going for the Englishman.

That said, the 30-year-old still managed to shoot a solid round of one-under par 69, and he trails the leaders – Rory McIlroy and Chris Gotterup – by two strokes heading into Sunday.

Fitzpatrick has utilised his cross-handed chipping method at The Scottish Open incredibly well through three rounds.

The Englishman ranked 29th in scrambling on day one, 1st on day two and 28th on day three at The Renaissance Club.

He will need to hit the ball better on Sunday, however, if he is to have any chance of securing his first win anywhere since the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in October 2023.

The tee-times for the final round of the Scottish Open have been changed, due to forecasted dense fog on Sunday morning.

As a result, there will be a two-tee start on Sunday, with the players going out in three-balls for the final round.

Fitzpatrick spoke to reporters after his third round 69 at The Renaissance Club, and responded when asked about his expectations for the conditions on day four of The Scottish Open.

He said: Well, we’re in Scotland. It’s been 40 degrees every day. So yeah, just have to see. Fog is an interesting changeup as well. I don’t really know what that means. I saw a little bit this morning I think but didn’t really make a difference to conditions. Be interesting to see how it plays.

The wind is set to be pretty calm on Sunday, but it remains to be seen how the dense fog affects the play.

The sun is set to shine again in East Lothian on Sunday, so it should be an absolute cracker of a final round at The Scottish Open.

Matthew Fitzpatrick’s PGA Tour results in 2025

Fitzpatrick’s form in 2025 has been extremely underwhelming.

The 2022 US Open champion knows full well what he is capable of, and that’s why he will be so frustrated with his performances this season.

Fitzpatrick will be desperate to win The Scottish Open on Sunday but even if he doesn’t, he’ll be hoping for a solid final round that will then kick-start his season.

The Englishman clearly has the ability to win big events, and now he has a chance to turn a really average season into a very good one in one fell swoop.
