Matt Fitzpatrick has revealed he’s sought advice from a DP World Tour player ahead of this week’s PGA Tour team event in New Orleans.

The Zurich Classic is the only US-based event that allows players to pair up in their pursuit of much-needed FedEx Cup points. The first round consists of fourball [best ball] before the second round of foursomes [alternate shot] before a repeat on Saturday and Sunday.

Matt teamed up with his brother Alex last year in an outing that was well-documented by Netflix’s hit golf series ‘Full Swing’.

The English pair have once again joined up in New Orleans and will be looking better their tied-19th finish from 2023.

The Fitzpatrick brothers were thrust in front of the media on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the first round.

During the 15-minute interview, Matt revealed that he had sought advice from DP World Tour star Edoardo Molinari.

“I got advice from Edoardo Molinari this week on which holes to tee off which, that’s about the extent it goes to,” he explained.

“I am always going to play with my brother regardless of the state of his game or my game. But I think it’s a combination of how PGA Tournaments are set up and how the greens tend to run. I’ve got more of a feel for it than him.

“I think some of it’s guiding him around as well. Where to aim, where we are going to play. He’s probably going to make more birdies than me because he’s more aggressive so that I can play the safe ball, and he can go for it.

“There are going to be points where we need birdies, and there will be times where we need to scramble a par.”

The Zurich Classic is an excellent chance to kickstart Alex’s PGA Tour career

The tournament in New Orleans is a unique chance for Alex to kickstart his career in the States. A win could be a complete game-changer for the 25-year-old.

Along with the FedEx Cup points and official prize money, a victory would count as an official win for both team members. As such, both players would receive a two-year exception and eligibility into invitational fields, including The Players Championship.

For Alex, the New Orleans event takes added significance. A positive performance could make him a regular on the most prestigious tour in golf.

It would be brilliant to see the pair in contention come Sunday; the pressure would certainly be on Matt to deliver.
