While Bryson DeChambeau is the most unique player at the highest level of the game, he really appears to have embraced team golf over the last few years.

Of course, Bryson DeChambeau signed up for LIV Golf in 2022. The team format is one of the factors which stands the league apart from the other tours.

And the Crushers captain made his return to the Ryder Cup this year. DeChambeau was lauded by some of his teammates for how hard he worked to get involved ahead of the event at Bethpage.

He also made sure to show his support to the American players on the 2025 Walker Cup team by attending the event.

The impact Bryson DeChambeau had while attending the 2025 Walker Cup

DeChambeau played in the Walker Cup a decade ago. Unfortunately, he was on the losing side at Lytham. Team USA have not lost since.

And that run continued at Cypress Point this year. The home side won 17-9, with the crucial session being the Sunday singles. The score had been 8.5-7.5 in the American team’s favour with one set of matches to go.

Mason Howell won two of his three matches across the week. He tied the other. And speaking on The Smylie Show, the 18-year-old explained what it was like to have DeChambeau come along.

“We got some videos from different professionals, but DeChambeau was there on site. He came to watch, and he gave us a hype speech on Saturday after our day. It was one hype speech I’ll definitely remember,” he said.

“He was on the losing side in a Walker Cup so that stung. He was like, ‘I don’t want you guys to feel how I felt on Sunday’. Hearing his words, especially with him being on losing side of it, because you hear plenty of stories of people winning, because it’s definitely a lopsided event with the Americans winning so many times, but he put it in really good perspective for us.”

What Mason Howell noticed Ian Poulter doing during his match with his son at Cypress Point

Of course, the Walker Cup provides a potential glimpse at Ryder Cups yet to come. And there was a particularly interesting name in the Great Britain and Ireland side.

Ian Poulter‘s son Luke was the third highest ranked player in the visiting team. And he went on to win both of his foursomes matches.

He did, however, lose to Howell in the Saturday singles. And the American teenager explained what he noticed his opponent’s father doing throughout the match.

“Poulter and I were throwing haymakers at each other all day. But that putt [on 15] was awesome to can, because it really got the momentum going for me and really put me in a good spot to win that match,” he added.

“It was pretty funny, every time that Luke made a good putt, Ian was the first one I could hear yell. Every single time.”

It will certainly be good news for Team Europe if Luke Poulter has a similar ability to raise his game in matchplay.

They are going to need it, judging by the amount of talent coming through on the American side right now.
