When it comes down to it, any golfer at any level can miss the most simple of shots and this week on the PGA Tour, it looks like it’s Tony Finau’s turn for some abuse from the golf world.
Finau is one of the world’s best players and is competing in the Houston Open looking to pick up his season and get himself in good form ahead of The Masters.
However, while Finau might be one of the best in the world, that doesn’t mean the errors don’t creep into his game every so often.
In fact, when it comes to major errors, Finau managed to pull off one of his biggest career blunders during the third round of the Houston Open.
And over on social media, golf fans have had a field day in mocking Finau.

Tony Finau mocked by golf fans after embarrassing Houston Open moment
Despite Finau not really being in contention to win in Houston, any golfer on the PGA Tour wants to avoid the dreaded three putt from close range.
However, while many do avoid it over the season, it seems like Finau’s time has come as he three putted from inside three feet to compound a poor day.
Finau rolled his first effort just two inches from the hole but as he went to tap in without paying attention, he somehow brushed the ball, counting as a second putt before finally tapping in.
And over on social media platform X, golf fans have been all over Finau’s error.
One fan branded Finau as ‘deeply unserious’, while another pointed out the monetary loss for Finau off that lapse.
“Let’s see how many thousands he loses off that stroke when the tournament is over”
In a harsher comment, one fan suggested he’d go a bit too far if Finau made the Ryder Cup team.
“If this loser gets on the Ryder cup team I’m revoking my citizenship”
While another golf fan suggested Finau even got away with not losing another shot.
“He straddles the line too which is a one stroke penalty.”
Easing the mood a little, one fan suggested Finau do the standard amateur move of checking if anyone was paying attention.
“First thing I’d do if I were him is look around to see if anyone was watching.”
While another fan suggested Finau’s grip was to blame.
“with that insane backhanded grip, you can’t expect good results…….”
Finally, one golf lover was quick to point to history as they highlighted how Hale Irwin had missed out on The Open in similar fashion.
“Hale Irwin lost the Open (by one shot) the same way.”
With Finau now out of contention down at five under par, it looks like this particular putt hasn’t meant too much in the end.
However, it might well be a lesson for Finau, who may want to revisit his habits if he is in contention further down the line.
