The PGA Tour season is into the part where it becomes crucial to grab those FedEx Cup points and extend your season but Gary Woodland has suggested it could be time for a rest.

Woodland is one of the big success stories in golf in recent years as he’s battled back from brain problems to return to the PGA Tour.

Now, searching for a first win since the 2019 US Open, Woodland has managed to get himself into contention at this week’s Wyndham Championship.

Woodland is nine under and inside the top ten going into the weekend, with leader Cam Young just five ahead.

However, despite admitting he’d love to keep playing for the next month, Woodland has suggested he’s in need of some rest.

Gary Woodland hints at shutting his season down

As it stands, Gary Woodland is right on the cusp of making the top 70.

He sits just four spots off the cut line but a solid weekend at the Wyndham will all but ensure he ends up booking his ticket for the next month.

Nevertheless, with all his past injury issues and a long season under his belt, Woodland has suggested he needs some time to recover before the Ryder Cup starts.

“First of all, I’m tired, my brain’s tired. I want to keep playing obviously for the next four weeks, but I need time off too. My brain needs to recover still. I’m tired,” Woodland admitted.

“Excited for the Ryder Cup, so I’ll have some time off before that, which will be nice. Then we’ll see about maybe shutting it down after that. I’m very fortunate to be where I am and it’s nice to get reminded of that sometimes, especially when you feel like you’re playing well and you don’t get any results, it gets frustrating. So reminding myself to stay patient and enjoy it. A lot.”

Gary Woodland’s 2025 in numbers

First off, just seeing Gary Woodland even competing on the PGA Tour is a pleasure after the struggles he’s had.

To see him pushing to make the top 70, then, is an even bigger joy.

In 2025, Woodland has had some good weeks and that is why he’s in the mix to make the season ending run.

Woodland has made 13 from 19 cuts, grabbed six top 25 finishes and crucially, finished runner up at the Houston Open to really boost his chances.

Add to that he’s pocket another $1,874,611 in prize money and it’s been a successful year for the American.
