Mackenzie Hughes has assessed his chances of catching Robert MacIntyre and going on and winning the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday.
Mackenzie Hughes is looking to become the second man in two years to win on home soil at the Canadian Open, with the 33-year-old leading the charge of those hoping to emulate Nick Taylor’s dramatic win last year.
As things stand, Hughes has plenty of work to do to secure his third PGA Tour title on Sunday, with Robert MacIntyre four shots clear at the top of the leaderboard.
McIntyre is looking for his first win on that side of the Atlantic, so he will welcome having a commanding lead with 18 holes to play.

And speaking in his press conference after his third round, Hughes noted that MacIntyre has one hand on the trophy, but insisted that he is not throwing in the towel just yet.
“Obviously, a lot of it will depend on what Robert does. I mean, if he plays a great round of golf tomorrow, he’ll be almost impossible to catch, but that’s why we play four days, you never know,” he said.

“Weird things have happened and four shots can be gone in a matter of three or four holes. He might come out and shoot three on the front nine, you just don’t know. And for me, my playing won’t change, I’ll just try and get as many looks as I can with the putter, get the crowd going early and see if I could make a charge.”
Scot has point to prove after a couple of underwhelming final rounds
Seven of the top eight have shot at least one round of 65 or better this week, with Hughes one of those who has produced a 64 in Ontario.
McIntyre has done also, but he has also shot in the 70s in five of his seven rounds on Sunday on the PGA Tour this season. At both the Myrtle Beach Classic and PGA Championship, those final rounds proved to be his worst scores of the week.
Neither of those scores have been disastrous by any means, but they have seen him fail to capitalise on strong positions, so that may leave the chasing pack with real hope, particularly if any of them get off to a flyer.
