Luke Donald will have had some high hopes for this Ryder Cup but even in his wildest dreams would he have imagined seeing Scottie Scheffler fail to win a single point.
Scheffler is now 0-4 for the 2025 Ryder Cup and while he has a box office clash with Rory McIlroy to come on Sunday, the tournament appears all but over.
Scheffler’s performance has been a bit of a mind-boggling one. He was outstanding all season again and the level of golf he’s shown at Bethpage is just not him.
Of course, for the Europeans and Luke Donald, seeing Scheffler struggle has been ideal.
And speaking on the subject of Scheffler’s struggles, captain Donald has now had his say on what the world number one’s issues might be.

Luke Donald assesses Scottie Scheffler’s Ryder Cup performance
To see Scottie Scheffler struggle like he has done has been hard to take.
For the Europeans, it’s been the ideal situation but for the game of golf in general, it’s tough watching the man who is usually so far clear of everyone else struggle.
Now, speaking to the press about Scheffler’s struggles, Luke Donald has suggested that the format just might not be for Scheffler.
“I have the utmost respect for Scottie Scheffler and what he’s done in the game. How he keeps continuing to be, he’s going to be one of the greatest players ever to play this game,” Donald said.
“The way he’s been playing the last three or four seasons, it’s incredible to watch. He’s great for the game.
“But yeah, it hasn’t been his time. Obviously match play, playing with a partner, it is different. You know, there’s different scenarios. You have to rely a little bit on your partners, as well. So you know, it’s hard to do it all by yourself but Scottie Scheffler is a champion.”
Rory McIlroy can put the seal on a miserable Ryder Cup for Scottie Scheffler
To finish the golf season off, we are getting the one everyone wanted to see as Rory McIlroy goes out against Scottie Scheffler.
The world’s two best players will go head to head and given they are going out fourth, it could be a deciding game.

With Europe needing just 2 and a half points, there is a chance that McIlroy has the chance to put the final dagger into Scheffler’s miserable tournament to win the trophy for Europe.
The way things have been going for Scheffler, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see.
McIlroy, of course, will revel in the glory if it is the case, while Scheffler will be left to lick his wounds ahead of another big season in 2026.
