Luke Clanton has admitted that he is a huge fan of current world number one Scottie Scheffler.

Clanton, 21, has only played 21 events on the PGA Tour, but he has already noticed something very special about Scheffler.

Before the US Open in 2024, Clanton played a practice round with Scheffler at Pinehurst, and he was blown away by how humble and focused the man from Dallas, Texas, was.

The talented young starlet is a man of deep faith, just like the 29-year-old world number one is.

Clanton is a big fan of Scheffler’s ability to close out golf tournaments, but he respects him as a human being even more so.

The 19-time PGA Tour winner has been almost unplayable at times over the past four months, with six victories to his name this year including two major championships.

But what is it that makes Scheffler so great, according to the Florida State University alumni?

Clanton is a hugely talented young player, but he is fully aware that he has a long way to go before he reaches Scheffler’s level.

The next year or so will very much be a learning curve for the man from Hialeah, Florida.

He would do very well to study Scheffler’s game and learn from the four-time major champion as much as he can.

In all fairness to the 21-year-old, it seems like that is exactly what he is doing.

Clanton said: “You look at Scottie Scheffler. That guy on every par five will have a birdie putt within six feet. He can hit a bad drive, or a bad iron shot, but he will find a way to get it in there. He’s the best because he’s so consistent. His emotional control is unbelievable, it’s very overlooked I think.“

Clanton is right. Scheffler receives huge praise for his incredible driving, iron play, chipping and even his putting now as well.

However, it is his consistency and unwavering mental strength which enable him to win so many tournaments.

And if Clanton can emulate Scheffler in the best way he can over the next few years, he’ll be on the right path to a really successful career.

Scottie Scheffler’s imperious 2025 PGA Tour season by numbers

After Rory McIlroy won the Masters, Scheffler’s season really kicked into gear.

Scheffler admitted that McIlroy Master’s victory motivated him to work even harder, and since the Sunday at Augusta National, the 29-year-old has won six times in 13 events played.

Scheffler’s underwhelming performance at the Ryder Cup was so shocking, given just how dominant he has been in 2025.

Tiger Woods didn’t enjoy a great record at the Ryder Cup either and there is definitely something to be said for the very best players in the world struggling when it comes to playing team formats.

However, Scheffler is so driven and focused that he will be determined to turn things around at the 2027 Ryder Cup and leave Ireland with a winning record at the very least.

However, his next goal will be to repeat his 2025 season next year and, most likely, improve upon it.
