The USA fallout from the Ryder Cup has continued after the hosts were beaten 15-13 by Team Europe at Bethpage Black.

The USA produced a fantastic fightback in New York, but their Sunday singles display fell just short of a memorable comeback victory.

American fans helped push their players on the final day of the Ryder Cup, although they did come under heavy fire for their treatment of the European players.

Among those criticizing the American fans was Tom Watson, while the PGA of America CEO Derek Sprague slammed the Ryder Cup fans for their abuse of the visiting team.

The European Ryder Cup players were prepared to stop if the abuse heightened, with star man Rory McIlroy particularly targeted.

LPGA player slams ‘awful’ USA decision at the Ryder Cup

But the fans are not the only group coming under fire despite the tournament having concluded one week ago.

Sharing her verdict on the American players being paid to play at the Ryder Cup, LPGA Tour player Mel Reid said on Quiet Please!: “It’s messed up. I don’t like it at all. I hate it. I think it’s awful. I think they already get enough.

“Even in the Solheim Cup we get all of our flights paid, all of our hotels, we get an allowance – your family is taken care of. They get gifting.

“I am just thinking to myself, you guys are so f——- spoiled yet again, and yet you want more. And it really p—– me off. I did not like that at all. I am pretty outspoken about that.

“A lot of guys came through and were like I am going to donate to my own charity, I was like okay, that’s awesome. But it just drives me nuts.”

Justice prevails at Bethpage Black as Europe beat the USA at the Ryder Cup

It was indeed a very disappointing decision to pay the American players for their Ryder Cup appearances at Bethpage Black.

It certainly isn’t what the tournament represents, with representing the USA a much more significant matter in that regard.

For the first time in the history of the Ryder Cup, the 12 home players received a fee to play, each earning $500,000.

Importantly, $300,000 was designated for charity, but the remaining $200,000 can be spent however they wish.

In stark contrast, the European players played for free, with some form of justice prevailing in New York given they were the winners of the prestigious event.
