LIV Golf major winner makes statement after failing to qualify for The US Open following a bogey on his last hole to miss out by one shot

The US Open will be held at Oakmont up in Pennsylvania next month.

Major number three of 2025 is nearly upon us, and The US Open at Oakmont is expected to be the toughest challenge out of all four majors.

Rory McIlroy was victorious at The Masters whilst Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow last week.

And now anticipation from golf fans is reaching fever pitch ahead of the third major of the year.

Oakmont is playing incredibly difficult ahead of The US Open, so the players will be dreading what the set-up will look like in three weeks’ time.

Scheffler and McIlroy will be favourites to win, but one US Open stalwart will not be at Oakmont this year.

Sergio Garcia makes statement after failing to qualify for The US Open

LIV Golf star Sergio Garcia will not be playing The US Open this year, unless a ‘miracle’ happens.

The Spaniard has enjoyed somewhat of a mini-revival on LIV over the past year or so, with two wins to his name.

However, that form hasn’t translated into qualification for The US Open for Garcia.

He was looking to keep alive his run of 25 consecutive US Open appearances, but failed to make it through qualifying by just one shot, after bogeying his final hole in Dallas on Monday.

And now he has posted a message on X in response to his heartbreaking failure to make his 26th consecutive US Open.

He said, “Unfortunately after failing to qualify on Monday by one shot, looks like my run of 25 consecutive U.S. Open Championships might come to an end this year, unless a little miracle happens. Very proud of this amazing run that I had at this great Major!“

He has made 20 out of 25 cuts at the US Open, and has 13 top-25s, five top-10s and three top-5s to his name.

The 2017 Masters champion had some really good chances to win the tournament, namely in 2005 and 2016.

Garcia will surely now be even more determined to get back to the US Open in 2026.

Unfortunately for him though, the fact that he’s playing on LIV means that he will have to try to qualify every year, unless he wins another one of the majors so that he’s exempt.

The US Open was always an event that Garcia would have fancied himself to win, and it’s a real shame he has never managed to do that.
