Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the LIV Houston event this weekend in a surprising turn of events before the US Open next week.

Rahm is due to compete at Pinehurst and will be one of the big name favourites going into the tournament.

The Spaniard was one of the big defectors from the PGA Tour over to LIV Golf and his move to the PIF-backed tour caused shockwaves in the sport.

However, Rahm remains a big name and with his place in the US Open now in doubt, it begged the question of just why he was forced to pull completely out of Houston.

Luckily, the LIV commentators were on hand to explain the issues Rahm had been having.

Jon Rahm injury explained as he pulls out of LIV Houston and is now a doubt for the US Open

Speaking about Rahm’s injury as news filtered through he was withdrawing, the LIV commentators explained what the issue was.

“Jon Rahm, who was showing some discomfort yesterday, there is a cut in between his toes. We saw him getting treatment on a golf cart before his round and he looked in some discomfort early on on day one and sadly, he has now been forced to withdraw.

“Sadly for Jon and we are just a week away from the US Open championship, he has had to withdraw here in Houston. So his run of top ten finishes ends at seven.”

Golf needs Rahm involved at Pinehurst

While some in golf remain a tad annoyed and dismayed at Rahm moving to LIV, he is still one of the top players in the world and the US Open needs him there really.

The majors are all about seeing the best in the world compete with each other and the idea of seeing Rahm compete with the Rory McIlroy’s and Scottie Scheffler’s of the world is captivating.

This injury seems a strange one as well. A cut inside the toes might seem minor but you never know of the seriousness and it has clearly impacted Rahm.

Hopefully, the Spaniard can get over it in time for Pinehurst and make a good fist of things.
