Lee Westwood has suggested something about New York is really going to suit team USA during the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Bethpage Black is the stage for next year’s competition as Europe look to retain the Ryder Cup on American soil for the first time since 2012.
Luke Donald’s men are coming off a dominant performance in Italy after being largely written off before the event in September 2023.
However, as is always the case, a more challenging test will be in store on the other side of the Atlantic.
Lee Westwood shares thoughts on 2025 Ryder Cup

Westwood is no stranger to competing in Ryder Cups. The Englishman has 24 points to his name and was part of the infamous ‘Miracle at Medinah’ 12 years ago.
Speaking on Peter Finch’s Rough Cut Podcast, Westwood has claimed the New York crowds could suit the American team.
He explained: “New York is really going to suit them. The New York crowds can get quite poisonous.”
Westwood added: “I think we [Europe] have enough good players now and good ones coming through where we should still have a chance. When you go to their back garden and start strong and quick, their crowds tend to turn fast and go against them, especially a New York crowd; you could see them doing that.”
All the pressure on the USA in 2025
After what was a massive failure in 2023, all the pressure is on the American team ahead of the competition at Bethpage Black.
The USA are usually formidable on home soil and will no doubt prove a tough test for Donald’s men to overcome.
However, after a remarkable performance in Italy, Europe will be heading to Long Island full of confidence and with the pressure somewhat off.
As Westwood alluded to, the New York crowd will be completely expectant of the hosts delivering next September. If the USA get off to a poor start, things could turn sour pretty quickly and, in turn, aid Europe’s chances.
