Sergio Garcia is one of the best ever golfers to emerge from Europe and he’s been fully backed by fellow pro Laurie Canter when it comes to his future in the game.
Garcia was one of the big names to make the move to LIV Golf and took the nice payday that went with it in the first place.
Garcia has also shown he’s very much still one of the best golfers in the world and he and his Fireballs GC team have produced some big moments on LIV.
Of course, being on the LIV Tour has downsides to it and Garcia, as it stands, is not going to be picked for future Ryder Cups, either as captain or player.
However, Luke Donald has recently revealed that Garcia is looking to regain his DP World Tour membership.
And according to Laurie Canter, the DP World Tour should be welcoming Garcia back with open arms.

Laurie Canter sends message to DP World Tour when it comes to Sergio Garcia
Speaking in an interview with Bunkered, Canter got onto the subject of Sergio Garcia and his DP World tour membership and subsequent Ryder Cup inclusions.
And according to Canter, the DP World Tour should be going all out to let the Spaniard back.
“He’s played 11 Ryder Cups and he’s our record points-scorer. I hope we bend over backwards for him when he decides to come back. Having him come to some of the events would be great. We can argue about his reputation but he’s still loved and known by lots of people around the world,” Canter said.
“The other thing that doesn’t get said enough about Sergio – the uncomfortable truth, perhaps – is how good he still is at golf. He came third on the LIV order of merit. He could easily play more Ryder Cups.
“My view would be that if Sergio Garcia wants to come and play on the DP World Tour a little bit, that would be great.”
Golf could finally be healing and Garcia deserves his place
With reports this weekend suggesting a deal may be close to being done between the PGA and LIV tours, it does appear golf is moving in the right direction finally.
What the future holds for the DP World Tour, remains to be seen.
However, there is a real chance for some healing to be done here and the DP Tour needs to listen to these comments from Canter and allow Garcia and others back in.
A golfer’s career is only so long and while Garcia has made his money already, he clearly still has an appetite to play the game in general.
For Europe, too, getting Garcia back involved and eligible for Ryder Cups makes sense.
