Kevin Na has done his best to add more spice to the PGA Tour and LIV Golf rivalry with his idea for future major championship eligibility.

Na won five times on the PGA Tour before defecting to LIV Golf in June 2022, where he is the current captain of Iron Heads GC.

The 41-year-old has finished in the top 12 in the three US-based major championships, but hasn’t featured since his 2023 Masters withdrawal.

LIV Golf is currently unable to offer its players direct exemptions into major championships, with past achievements or special invites their best options.

Official World Golf Ranking points are also a viable route, but the 54-hole LIV Golf events are not on that eligibility list.

Kevin Na wants LIV Golf winners to qualify for major championships

Conversely, PGA Tour players can use this method to play at the US Open and The Open Championship, with qualification also taking place.

And unlike LIV Golf champions, PGA Tour winners receive invites to subsequent Masters and PGA Championships events.

But that would all change if Na was in charge, having shared how he thinks LIV’s major championship pathway should look with Golf Monthly.

“I think you do winners, so if you win a LIV Golf tournament,” he said. “We only have 13, so to win a golf tournament with this field, it’s pretty difficult to do.

“Winners should be exempt, and I think you take the top 16 players or so. I think if you have a season and you finish inside the top 16, you should be exempt into all four Majors.

“A lot of guys who are Major champions and are exempt, they’re going to overlap, so top 10 isn’t enough. I don’t even think top 15 is enough, 16 is a good number.

“I know The Masters does it so that if you win a golf tournament on the [PGA] Tour, then you get in. I think it should be just the same for LIV.

“If you win a LIV event, there are only 13, then you should be in all the Majors because that’s not easy to do.

“Plus, you’re going to have multiple winners, so you’ll only get 10 guys who win a tournament in a year. And you know Jon Rahm is going to win one!”

Many golf fans strongly disagree with Kevin Na’s LIV Golf major idea

LIV Golf did, of course, have a major champion in 2024, with Bryson DeChambeau fending off PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy to win the US Open.

But the more traditional tour did have winners elsewhere, with Scottie Scheffler winning the Masters and Xander Schauffele winning the PGA Championship and The Open.

Two-time major champion DeChambeau is the only LIV representative in the OWGR top 10, with the world number 10 followed by Tyrrell Hatton in 16th.

Na’s wish hasn’t exactly gone down with golf fans, with one responding on X: “I’m sure he does… his major competition chances are gone… Part of the consideration when going to LIV.”

A second wrote: “At the same time confirming that we’ll never see him in a major again,” with a third saying: “Of course. It’s such a wide field played over 4 tough days on tough courses. Oh wait.”

Another fan noted: “No! People who went to LIV knew what they were doing and decided for the money and against the competition. So please enjoy the relaxed calendar on LIV and stop complaining!”
