Harris English is no stranger to winning on the PGA Tour in January of a Ryder Cup year, with his victory at the Farmers Insurance Open being his first in almost four years.

It was Harris English who was able to do enough to get across the line at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. The 35-year-old was able to post a final round of 73 to win by one over Sam Stevens in San Diego.

It certainly was not pretty from English on Saturday. He was down in 62nd for strokes gained off the tee during the final round, losing more than a stroke on the field. Nevertheless, his third round of 66 allowed him to somewhat stumble across the line to secure a fifth PGA Tour win.

Of course, every performance has additional significance this year, with the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black on the horizon. And there is a slightly different dynamic with the captain one of those clearly in contention to make the team.

Keegan Bradley’s caddie drops Ryder Cup hint about Harris English

Keegan Bradley will certainly not struggle for opportunities to see his potential team members in action over the coming months.

Bradley himself finished in a tie for 15th at Torrey Pines. And it seems that English has staked an early claim to return to the team after making his debut in 2021.

Speaking on the Golf Channel Podcast, Rex Hoggard shared what Bradley’s caddie told English just as he left the green after securing victory.

“To your point about the Ryder Cup, I will point out those who stuck around for the end of the CBS telecast, if you saw Harris walking from the 18th green to scoring, he was talking with a gentleman with a beard and glasses, that’s Scotty Vail, and he’s Keegan Bradley’s caddie. And you heard him say something about the Ryder Cup, and Harris’ response was, ‘I’d love to be on that team’. And you heard Scotty say, ‘someone else would love to have you on that team as well’. I think you’re right, he’d be such an asset this year,” he said.

How Harris English performed on his Ryder Cup debut at Whistling Straits

English picked a great year to make his Ryder Cup debut. Of course, the 2021 event at Whistling Straits saw Team USA secure a record win.

English actually had an underwhelming week. Both him and Tony Finau ended the week with just one point after they managed to beat Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry on Friday afternoon.

Lowry would get some revenge the following day alongside Tyrrell Hatton. The Irishman holed a brilliant putt on the last to secure a much-needed point for Europe.

And the singles would see English beaten by Lee Westwood. But by that time, the Ryder Cup was well and truly back in American hands anyway.

Of course, there is a long way to go until Bradley’s team for New York is decided. But clearly, English has made a real impression on his captain.
