Keegan Bradley told he has missed an ‘opportunity to make history’ as his US Ryder Cup team is confirmed

United States team captain Keegan Bradley finally announced his six captain’s picks for the 2025 Ryder Cup on Wednesday.

Bradley decided not to pick himself after months of speculation that he could perform both roles simultaneously at Bethpage.

He selected Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns instead.

Many players and pundits have already reacted to the news, including Dan Rapaport, who thinks it was a missed opportunity.

Dan Rapaport wanted Keegan Bradley to be Ryder Cup playing captain

While most would agree that Bradley made the right choice for the benefit of the United States team, Rapaport completely disagrees.

He thinks that Bradley should have become the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer over 60 years ago.

Rapaport reasons that watching him do something so special would have galvanised the American players rather than being a distraction.

“I understand obviously why he’s not playing, but I think Keegan as a captain’s pick would’ve put an incredible charge into this event and into his team,” he tweeted.

“Most of what the captain has to do is in the run-up – schedule, food, etc, but you have so many assistant captains/data guys to help once the tournament starts.

“The captain can’t hit a shot, and he’s not going to be coaching the best players in the world. Obviously would’ve been setting himself up for big-time second-guessing if they lose, but man, he had an opportunity to make history and turned it down.”

Keegan Bradley told to call Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koepka

Popular sports media personality Kevin Van Valkenburg suggested that Keegan Bradley make another bold decision ahead of the Ryder Cup.

He wants to see Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koepka join the team as assistants, as it would set them up to become future captains.

“This is a genuine tweet and not a troll: Keegan should ask Spieth and Brooks to come be assistants/cheerleaders in Bethpage,” he posted on social media.

“Two future captains, two important pieces of US golf culture. Set up future captaincies by keeping them in the mix.”

While Spieth and Koepka might be interested in an assistant role, Bradley probably has enough support from Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, and Gary Woodland.
